Dr. Terry A. Gordon

the wounded healer

Speaker Profile

Dr. Terry A. Gordon, a Cleveland Clinic trained cardiologist practiced within mainstream medicine for over two decades. Named the American Heart Association’s National Physician of the Year in 2002, he is nationally recognized in all matters of the heart.

For many years, Dr. Gordon’s approach to diseased hearts was to fix the broken parts with mechanical devices and pharmaceuticals. Ultimately, he discovered that complete healing occurs in a place not at all where one might expect.

As a physician who on a daily basis dealt with life and death, Dr. Gordon has come to appreciate that life is precious and can change in an instant. He and his family experienced first-hand such a dramatic shift when his son, Tyler was involved in an automobile accident sustaining a severe spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. In leading his family through this life-changing experience, Dr. Gordon’s journey has resulted in a spiritual awakening to a clearer understanding of life and the truths it has to offer.

He has learned that when adversity comes our way, it is how we respond to that difficulty that determines who we become. It is what it is. But it will become what we decide to make of it. Life experiences become calamities only if we make the conscious decision to make tragedies out of them. Rather than lamenting these so-called adversities, we can choose to be grateful for them. We can embrace them and accept them as gifts from the Divine that can provide fertile soil for growth and enlightenment.

As a leading health advocate, one of Dr. Gordon’s missions in life has been saving the lives of what he refers to as our most precious resource, our children. After the untimely death of Josh Miller, a 15-year-old high school football player who collapsed and died of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) during a hometown football game, Dr. Gordon began a purposeful mission, one that would forever change his life while impacting the lives of thousands upon thousands of people at risk of dying. His passion became the placement of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in schools across the state of Ohio. Ultimately over 4,470 defibrillators were placed and over 15,000 individuals were trained in CPR and the use of AEDs. The result has been at least 15 lives saved as a direct result of his initiative.

He spearheaded a national campaign, which resulted in legislation put forth by U.S. Congresswoman Betty Sutton to recreate the Ohio School AED initiative on a national scale, the goal being to place one AED in every school in our country. The Josh Miller HEARTS Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives twice.

As a speaker at your event, Dr. Gordon will share how to connect with the haven of healing that lies within, where the perceived adversity and turmoil of the physical world dissolve into a place of unfathomable beauty and insight. His authentic wisdom, drawn from his personal experience will help your audience find what he has uncovered from him journey of healing . . . something we all desire…Peace.
